I used SolidWorks to develop CAD parts and assemblies, prepare dimensioned engineering drawings, and model designs for my machine-design projects. The work below also includes selected models completed through tutorial exercises.
I followed the Udemy course Master SOLIDWORKS 3D CAD using real-world examples and made these models as part of the tutorials.
These projects were part of my machine design courses, ME 3117 and ME 3217 (coursework details).
Our task was to redesign an existing hydrostatic test setup for 10 bar pressure and pipes up to 225 mm in diameter, using plain carbon steel. I sized the parts and modeled the assembly in SOLIDWORKS.
Choosing the screw diameter, plate thickness and handle dimensions required repeated changes to the calculations and CAD model.
I calculated the gear parameters for a 4.2:1 differential and modeled the parts and assembly in SOLIDWORKS. The second part covered a foot brake, including the drum and shoe geometry and force calculations.
Practiced finite element modeling using PrePoMax, an open-source pre- and postprocessor for CalculiX, through publicly available examples and documentation.
Software websiteDeveloped finite element models in Abaqus for a bioinspired Bouligand laminate study, investigating the tensile and three-point bending responses of 19-layer PLA–TPU structures. The simulations were used to evaluate stiffness and peak-load response in comparison with experimental results.
I used LAMMPS for molecular dynamics simulations in my undergraduate thesis, investigating the mechanical and fracture behavior of Ti₂N MXene. I also worked through additional courses and tutorial examples to explore different molecular simulation techniques.
Explore the Ti₂N MXene research project →Worked through simulation examples covering crack propagation, fluid flow around obstacles, atomic and molecular deposition, and molecular interactions and constraints.
